Emergency Response On Ice

All players need to know that the emergency call phone is located between the second and third rinks near the stairway and vending machines. It works like a “walkie-talkie”. Press and hold the button to speak. Let the button out to hear a reply.

Take a minute to find this yellow box and read how it works. Every second counts in a response. Spending a few minutes now could save a life in an emergency later.

The AED (automatic external defibrillation) kit is also located here. There are several players who know how to use this machine. In an emergency, 2 players should go to the Yellow Emergency Call box. One alerts the Western Fair Staff and the other takes the AED back to where the player is. Designating a couple of players as the 2 emergency responders before a game starts might also save time.

The link below shows a simple way for any person to give chest compressions. Watch it a few times, the key is to start helping the player ASAP.

IF A PLAYER GOES DOWN IN A GAME AND HAS A SERIOUS INJURY, APPEARS DISORIENTED BUT IS STILL CONSCIOUS, MAKE THE CALL TO FAIR STAFF AND SAY AN AMBULANCE IS NEEDED.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BRING A TEAM MATE TO THE HOSPITAL. EMS DOES THIS. OUR JOB IS TO MAKE SURE THEY GET CALLED ASAP.
